Chapter 1
Chapter 1 Verse 1
1. Paul, Silvanus and Timothy,[1] to the congregation[2] of the Thessalonians in God our Father and Sovereign Jesus Christ:
Chapter 1 Verse 2
2. Grace and peace to you from God our Father and Sovereign Jesus Christ.[3]
Chapter 1 Verse 3
3. We are obligated to always give thanks to God about you, brothers, and properly so, because your faith is really growing, and the love of each and every one of you towards each other keeps increasing;
Chapter 1 Verse 4
4. so that we ourselves boast about you among God’s congregations, referring to your steadfastness and faith in the midst of all your persecutions, and the tribulations that you are enduring[4]
Chapter 1 Verse 5
5. —the above is evidence that God’s judgment is right,[5] to the end that you be considered worthy[6] of the Kingdom of God, on behalf of which you are actually suffering;
Chapter 1 Verse 6
6. since to God it is right to pay back affliction to those who are afflicting you[7]
Chapter 1 Verse 7
7. and rest (along with us) to you who are being afflicted,[8] at the revelation of the Lord Jesus from heaven with His powerful angels in blazing fire,[9]
Chapter 1 Verse 8
8. inflicting vengeance on those who do not know God and on those who do not obey the Gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ,[10]
Chapter 1 Verse 9
9. who will pay a penalty: everlasting ruin,[11] away from the face of the Lord and from the glory of His might,
Chapter 1 Verse 10
10. whenever He comes to be glorified by His saints,[12] yes to be marveled at by all who have believed (because our testimony to you was believed);[13] in that Day.[14]
Chapter 1 Verse 11
11. To this end we also pray always for you, that our God may count you worthy of the calling[15] and fulfill[16] with power every desire of usefulness and work of faith,[17]
Chapter 1 Verse 12
12. so that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ[18] may be glorified in you,[19] and you in Him,[20] according to the grace of our God and Lord, Jesus Christ.[21]
Chapter 2
Chapter 2 Verse 1
1. Now, brothers, concerning the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ and our being gathered to Him,[1] we urge you
Chapter 2 Verse 2
2. not to be quickly shaken from your conviction or disturbed, whether by a spirit[2] or a word or a letter as from us,[3] as though the Day of Christ[4] has come.
Chapter 2 Verse 3
3. Do not let anyone deceive you by any means; because that day cannot come unless the rebellion[5] comes first and the man of sin[6] is revealed, the son of ruin,[7]
Chapter 2 Verse 4
4. who opposes and exalts himself over everything that is called a god or an object of worship, to the point of taking his seat as God[8] in God’s sanctuary,[9] proclaiming himself to be God.
Chapter 2 Verse 5
5. (Don’t you remember that I used to tell you these things while still with you?)[10]
Chapter 2 Verse 6
6. So now you know what is restraining, to the end that he[11] may be revealed at his own time.
Chapter 2 Verse 7
7. For the mystery of the lawlessness is already at work;[12] only He who now restrains will do so until He removes Himself.[13]
Chapter 2 Verse 8
8. And then the lawless one will be revealed, whom the Lord will consume with the breath of His mouth and abolish by the splendor of His coming;[14]
Chapter 2 Verse 9
9. that one’s coming is according to the working of Satan with all power[15] and signs and lying wonders,
Chapter 2 Verse 10
10. and with all wicked deception among those who are wasting themselves,[16] because they did not receive the love of the truth[17] so that they might be saved.[18]
Chapter 2 Verse 11
11. Yes, because of this God will send them an active delusion[19] so that they will believe the lie[20]
Chapter 2 Verse 12
12. and so that all may be condemned who have not believed the truth but have taken pleasure in wickedness.[21]
Chapter 2 Verse 13
13. Now we are obligated to always give thanks to God about you, brothers loved by the Lord, because from the beginning[22] God chose you into salvation, through sanctification of spirit and belief in truth,
Chapter 2 Verse 14
14. to which[23] He called you through our gospel, so as to obtain the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.[24]
Chapter 2 Verse 15
15. So then, brothers, stand firm and hold to the traditions[25] that you were taught by us, whether by word or by letter.
Chapter 2 Verse 16
16. Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who loved us and gave us eternal comfort[26] and good hope, by grace,
Chapter 2 Verse 17
17. encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good word and work.[27]
Chapter 3
Chapter 3 Verse 1
1. Finally, brothers, pray for us, that the word of the Lord may spread rapidly and be glorified, as also with you,
Chapter 3 Verse 2
2. and that we may be delivered from evil and malignant men; for not all have faith.[1]
Chapter 3 Verse 3
3. But the Lord is faithful, who will strengthen you and guard you from the malignant one.[2]
Chapter 3 Verse 4
4. We have confidence in the Lord concerning you, that you both do and will do the things we command.[3]
Chapter 3 Verse 5
5. Now may the Lord direct your hearts into the love of God and into the perseverance of Christ.[4]
Chapter 3 Verse 6
6. Now we command you, brothers, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that you withdraw from every brother who behaves irresponsibly and not according to the tradition that they[5] received from us.
Chapter 3 Verse 7
7. For you yourselves know how you ought to imitate us, because we did not behave irresponsibly among you;
Chapter 3 Verse 8
8. neither[6] did we eat anyone’s bread without paying; rather we worked night and day, with difficulty and hardship, so as not to be a burden to any of you;
Chapter 3 Verse 9
9. not because we do not have the right, but in order to offer ourselves to you as a model for you to imitate.
Chapter 3 Verse 10
10. Yes, because when we were with you we gave you this command: “If anyone does not want to work,[7] neither let him eat!”
Chapter 3 Verse 11
11. Yet we hear that some among you are behaving irresponsibly; not working, just meddling.
Chapter 3 Verse 12
12. Now to such individuals we command and exhort by our Lord Jesus Christ that they work in quietness and eat their own bread.
Chapter 3 Verse 13
13. But as for you, brothers, do not lose heart in well doing.
Chapter 3 Verse 14
14. If anyone does not obey our word in this letter, take note of him and do not associate with him, that he may be shamed;
Chapter 3 Verse 15
15. yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother.[8]
Chapter 3 Verse 16
16. Now may the Lord of peace Himself give you the peace[9] during every situation, in every way.[10] The Lord be with you all.
Chapter 3 Verse 17
17. The greeting of Paul, with my own hand, which is the ‘trademark’ in every letter that I write.[11]
Chapter 3 Verse 18
18. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you all.Amen.
